An astonishing destiny for this exceptional motor car. It was bought in July 1969 in the United States so that it could enjoy the Californian sunshine. This four-seat drop-top convertible brought joy to a whole family. Then time passed and the children grew up. The car was entrusted to a museum, where it remained for almost 30 years. Behind a barrier, it only had to look beautiful to draw every eye. Then one of the former owner's children came to visit it. When he saw it in its showcase, he longed to take it out of this gilded prison and drive it again. But time had taken its toll on this car, full of memories. The brakes needed attention. The tyres were far too old. The leather seats were in very poor condition. In memory of his father, this man decided to bring back to life the car that had cradled his childhood. The former owner's son had exceptional financial means. He gave free rein to several craftsmen to restore his father's car to its original state. The final result is sumptuous: The chassis was removed from the bodyshell to be blasted and repainted. All hoses and moving parts were replaced. The brakes were upgraded to more modern units. The tyres were of course replaced. The trimmer started from scratch to fit the interior leather. The paintwork was redone in its original colour. This little lady is in marvellous shape. She really doesn't look her 57 years. It feels as if this car is brand new. A collector's dream. Of the 33 EXCALIBUR SS PHAETONs built in 1969, this one is surely the finest.
