Exterior / Body:
The model shown here is an EXCALIBUR Phaeton 3 short-wheelbase from February 1977 in its original “Red” period colour.
The paint is uniform but slightly dulled.
After a professional polish using the orbit-type polisher by our workshop, we noted a few tiny paint nicks repaired on the bonnet and right rear wing.
This example is complete and retains all its original accessories and features:
Front and rear chromed bumpers, horns, spare wheels and wheel covers, chromed bonnet rack, original rear trunk.
The chromed mirrors are in perfect condition.
The bumpers, being highly exposed, show no distortions but do have some micro-scratches.
This car is equipped with long-beam LUCAS headlights.
Opening panels are in good condition.
This example is fitted with the “side screens” in mohair and plexiglass and a mohair hood cover in colour “Black”.
The mohair hood in colour “Black” is in perfect condition, with no snags or discolouration.
Fitting is upgradeable and its seal remains satisfactory.
The mica rear window shows good clarity with no cracks or yellowing.
The mohair side screens and plexiglass are in perfect condition.
This exemplar has a rare and sought-after option: the hard top.
This item is in very good condition; we note the absence of the rear window.
The four original chromed wire wheels “Excalibur 97 spokes” show signs of oxidation.
These are fitted with four tyres with 40% wear on the front and rear.
Among the notable bodywork/ equipment options on this car are: mohair hood cover, hard top, chromed horns, four chromed Excalibur wheels, and two spare wheels with their covers.
Interior:
The interior has been preserved in its original layout.
Overall condition is good, with no rips or sagging.
Full tan leather upholstery is in excellent condition. We note a small scratch on the driver’s seat back and a small stain on the rear seat.
The tan leather door panels are in the same condition.
The dashboard and the leather-tinished dash cap are also perfect.
VDO instrument cluster, AUTO METER tachometer and PIONEER stereo are fully functional.
The era-appropriate air conditioning is no longer functional.
The original EXCALIBUR three-spoke leather steering wheel in “Black” shows signs of use.
Leather gear knob is in perfect condition.
The carpets in “Black” are in very good condition.
To aid manoeuvring, this car is fitted with power steering, a desirable and sought-after option.
Among the notable interior features/ options: tan leather upholstery, PIONEER radio, front and rear seat belts, and power steering.
Chassis:
On lifting onto the ramp, the body and chassis appear sound with no visible accident history or structural corrosion.
The main components, bolt-together ladder frame, floors, sills, wheel arches, interior panels and lower sills are in excellent condition.
The usual caveat applies: we cannot guarantee components beyond their seen condition and on-road performance.
During the dynamic test, there were no unusual noises from the body or suspension components (ball joints, bushings, etc.).
Braking is aided by a mastervac (brake assist).
Braking is balanced, with no vibrations or abnormal noises.
Front and rear discs show 50% wear.
Front and rear pads show 20% wear.
A technical inspection prior to delivery will confirm proper operation of all systems.
Engine / Transmission:
The mechanicals are in excellent running order.
This car is equipped with the largest Excalibur engine: Chevrolet 7. 4L V8.
Compression checks and road test by our workshop confirm a healthy engine.
The V8 starts instantly without smoke or unusual noises, and idle is steady, as shown in the 360° video with the engine running at the start of the slideshow.
Cold oil pressure is 58 psi at 500 rpm.
At operating temperature, revs rise smoothly without snags.
This car has a quadruple-body Edelbrock carburettor and a chromed SUMIT air filter.
The automatic gearbox shifts 3 gears without issues or excessive slipping.
This car is equipped with a battery disconnect switch.
As is often the case with older engines, engine/ transmission seals are imperfect.
Notable engine-related equipment: Edelbrock quadruple-carburettor, chromed air filter, and battery disconnect switch.
NOTE: this car is configured with “opened side pipes” (side-exit exhausts).
The heat from exhaust gas flow can pose a burn risk if contact is made with the exhaust tubes while or after running the engine.
