The Appeal
Faster roads and even faster cars meant the police were, quite literally, playing catch-up in the 1960s. To keep the crims in their Mk2s under surveillance, they needed quicker cars. One option was Triumph’s nimble TR4.
This car is believed to be the only surviving Police TR4 in existence, and it has been comprehensively restored by TR royalty, namely Neil Revington at Revington TR. It is a 1962 TR4 that began life with Southend on Sea Police where it was equipped with the usual array of rozzer paraphernalia including Winkworth bell, PYE communication radio, and police signage.
The car was extensively restored by Revington around 16 years ago. As you might expect, the work was done to a very high standard and the original features were carefully replicated. It has covered few miles since, largely being stored in a dehumidified garage and never used in the wet. Consequently, its white paintwork and various official detailing remaining smartly intact.
The current keeper acquired the car in 2021 and tells us that he has invested £4,000 to keep it in tip top condition, including a full gearbox rebuild. The car remains at a high standard but is designed to be used rather than merely shown.
Few TR4s have the provenance and condition of this one. Even if you aren’t here for the police connections you’re getting a finely sorted example. Add those in and this is a car that will be hard to ignore for serious TR collectors.
