The Attractions
Launched two years after the Vespa scooter, the Piaggio Ape uses Vespa mechanics and is still in production today. Italy produced many extraordinary and unforgettable vehicles in the 1950s, but without doubt one of the most unique and fascinating is the Calessino. Similar to the eastern Tuk-tuks, these small and agile motorcars proved to be valuable companions for many small businesses scattered all over Italy, even in the most remote places, and soon became a familiar sight along the narrow and steep coastal roads.
This particular Ape Calessino AC1 stands out for the meticulous restoration it has undergone, which has preserved its authentic vintage character by focusing on key aspects such as the characteristic wooden bodywork and awning. This little three-wheeled gem comes from a private collection, where it was displayed as a work of art, and is a rare and fascinating specimen.
These working vehicles have often been used to the point of total wear and in most cases the simple mechanics and wooden bodywork have been completely compromised by the passage of time. For this reason, it is particularly rare to find one in this state of preservation.
