With their scintillating performance, World Rally Championship heritage, endless tunability and superb handling characteristics, it’s little wonder that performance Subarus have been a mainstay of car culture for 30 years or more.
Imported from Japan in September last year and subject to an extensive scheme of maintenance and servicing since, this WR special edition presents in excellent overall condition. Bearing the equivalent of just under 55,000 miles, this is a genuine, low mileage example – one that is sure to be a hit with fans of the marque. Perfect to keep as-is for some practical and fun daily driving, or the ideal base for some modification and customisation, this Legacy offers a wealth of options to its new owner.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in Japan in 2004

The Interior
- Embroidered, black half leather upholstery with blue Alcantara inserts all presents very well, with minimal evidence of wear considering the age of the car
- Dark grey carpets throughout, with new mats that feature smart blue binding to match the Alcantara
- Electrically operated front seats
- Electric windows and door mirrors
- Upgraded double DIN Android Auto head unit with GPS and Bluetooth functionality
- OEM CD changer supplied with the vehicle
- Air conditioning, which the vendor informs us works very well and blows ice cold
- We noted some slight cracks in the dashboard around the air vents
- Otherwise, the trim and switchgear all shows very well, looking to be in fine condition
- The vendor assures us that all the cabin’s features function just as they should, with no faults reported
- Generous boot space with grey ‘Subaru’ branded liner, spacesaver spare wheel and jack
The Exterior
- WR Blue Mica paintwork, inspired by Subaru’s iconic WRC livery, presents very well with no notable damage, scuffs or blemishes to report
- Wind deflectors are installed on the side windows
- Attractive factory-fitted bodykit includes a deep bonnet intake, revised front and rear bumpers, side skirts and a subtle rear spoiler
- Bodywork, trim and badging all show in very good order, with nothing missing, no major damage and no corrosion we could discern
- We only spotted two minor faults: a slight scuff to the near-side mirror casing and a crack to the off-side area of the tailgate trim (although this is hidden when the tailgate is closed)
- Underneath, the floors, sills and inner wheel arches look to be in excellent condition, with no damage or corrosion
- We are informed the car was fully undersealed after import
- Lovely 10-spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels wear a handsome gold finish and show in fine fettle, with no notable kerbing or lacquer peel we could see
The Mechanics
- 2-litre DOHC, twin-scroll turbo(VF38) ‘boxer’ engine – code EJ20
- Tiptronic automatic transmission offers smooth shifting
- All-wheel drive for great handling and road-holding
- Inspected by a specialist after import
- Upgraded aftermarket GFB dump valve (recirculation or vent-to-air) fitted, original will also come with the car
- Bilstein performance suspension
- The OEM turbo was refurbished less than 500 miles ago
- Other work undertaken since import includes: new brake discs and pads all round, new cambelt, water pump, thermostat, fresh coolant, AC tensioner, rocker gaskets, suspension bushes, full differential and transmission service
- The vendor tells us that the car runs perfectly, with no mechanical faults or issues they are aware of
Summary
Fast, practical and with a truly characterful powertrain, there’s much to recommend this handsome Legacy. Presented in fine condition with low mileage, we can’t think of many better ways to zip through the countryside with all the family and a brace of dogs.
