This is an original UK car, and is structurally sound, the sills and floor pan having been welded in the past. It’s got a strong engine, with twin Solex carbs, and an original air box. It starts easily, and all the gauges work. It’ only done a few thousand miles while I’ve owned it. No need for tax or MOT now, but it does have an MOT until April 2019. Last year the insurance (which included breakdown cover) was £103.
I’ve supplemented the original wiring for the lights with an extra set of relays for peace of mind, all the electricals bits work. She does not drop oil or water, there’s an electric fuel pump, and Filter King installed, as well as an electrical isolation switch.
There’s book of invoices going back to the late nineties, a raft of old MOT’s and the ubiquitous old tax discs.
Currently the car is on a private plate (hence the blanked out plates in the photos), but I’m moving that off, and it should get its original plate back.
Every time I drive it I get comments and thumbs up from other drivers. Although it’s almost 50 years old, this car is sophisticated, a five speed (dog leg) gear box, a 1. 3 V4 engine, disc brakes all round. After following me to the garage in her 1. 2 modern Corsa, my friend was surprised that she couldn’t keep up with me! This car can easily keep up with modern traffic, and often surprise other drivers.
This is an opportunity to get a real rolling restoration, you can use this car every day, and it would cost you peanuts.
The not so good parts – it needs a paint job, the bottom of the doors are a bit iffy, the passenger door needs to be re-hung, the windscreen is scratched, and could do with a polish, the heater control needs to be wired up correctly, the rear panel and near side front wing need a bit of attention, and the seats need re-stitching.
Why haven’t I done any of this? Well I have the other Fulvia that’s occupying my time!
Come and have a look, this car isn’t perfect, but with a little bit of work she could be stunning, based in Cambridgeshire, just at the top of the M11.
