This Dunkirk era classic car is a rare example of a twin-tone 1939 special edition sliding roof Morris 10 Series M.
At nearly 80years old, having survived the blitz, the remainder of the war, through the millennium, family lives, abandonment, restoration, and being part of a classic car collection, she now resides in north London and attends as many classic car shows and events as time permits. Recently, Arhnem, Holland (A Bridge Too Far) for the anniversary ceremonies and she'll be perfect for the big celebrations next year in Normandy.
Being a pre-war vehicle and lovingly known as poppy, in classic car shows, due to her red and black colourings, she serves as a reminder to all those that served and sacrificed both at home and abroad to keep the world safe. Her current "war department" / "black-out" motif reflects the challenges faced by the people on the home front during this period and their determination and British stiff upper lip though out the war & beyond and is a great conversational starter, both to educate the children of today and a great reminder of yesterday years.
This rare example has kept the original 80year old patina interior to high-light the durability and life that she has led. Not being to a show room finish enables her to feel like a comfy pair of shoes, an old friend, and easily drivable without the worry that she's too precious to touch or get dirty.
As a mark of British ingenuity and 30's craftsmanship, she is a treat to drive. Starting first time and having no trouble cruising at 45mph, with plenty left in her.
Now to the bad points, she doesn't have power steering, electric windows or air conditioning, parking sensors or sat nav, but she's a real head turner and a great piece of automotive history. Being one of the first examples of the modern car with standard gearbox, (no double declutching required) unitary construction, and a x-series engine, she's a great classic car for both the new entry level enthusiast, or a lovely addition for a veteran collector, who can also appreciate its unique appeal.
Easy to work on when needed (which is rare) and great to admire (which is always) she'll be greatly missed by all that know her. Unfortunately due to other projects and commitments, she has drawn the short straw and needs to brighten up someone else’s life.
In mid-2018 she had a bit of extra attention. Consisting of a new clutch, valve gear inspection and service, new ignition system (points, plugs, leads and coil), SU (H2) carb rebuild and SU (LP)fuel pump rebuild. So she's all raring to go to face her 80th year in style.
