Lola's sublimely beautiful T70 Spyder sports-racer is historically significant as winner of the first ever Can-Am Championship. A Mark II version, of which some 35 were produced, chassis number 'SL71/ 28' was manufactured in 1966 and delivered to the USA. According to the accompanying FIA papers, it was sold to Chaparral co-founder Jim Hall via Lola's North American distributor John Mecom, another team owner and Can-Am entrant. Messrs Mecom and Hall never raced this car (the latter had purchased it to assist with developing the next Chaparral), which when it did take to the track was campaigned by BARF Racing and driven by Bob Bucher. Highlights of the season were SCCA National Championship wins at Cumberland (May), Vineland (June) and Watkins Glen (August), plus victory in the Watkins Glen 500 Mile race, also in August.
After competing in North America for one season, 'SL71/ 28' was sold to a new owner in South Africa and would remain there until 1986. The Lola then returned to the UK (imported by Trevor Meedham) and in 1991 was acquired by Jean-Paul Bertrand, a resident of Luxembourg. Subsequently a two-year restoration was then embarked upon, on the completion of which in 1998 the car was sold to G Diefemthal in Germany. It has been in Spain since 2001, and between 2001 and 2005 was raced in European championships.
The car has since been completely restored again: chassis, bodywork, gearbox, engine, extinguishers, etc and has participated in only four races since completion in 2016. The vendor advises us that it is completely authentic, the only major component changed being the radiator (original damaged by a minor impact). Everything else is said to be original and in excellent condition, while the white/ blue colour scheme is the same as when the car was competing in 1966.

Apr?s sa saison de comp?tition en Am?rique du nord, SL71/ 28 fut vendue ? un nouveau propri?taire en Afrique du sud o? elle resta jusqu'en 1986. La Lola revint alors au Royaume-Uni (import?e par Trevor Meedham) et en 1991 fut acquise par Jean-Paul Bertrand, un r?sident Luxembourgeois. Une restauration de deux ans fut alors entreprise au terme de laquelle en 1998 la voiture fut vendue ? G. Diefemthal en Allemagne. Elle est rest?e en Espagne jusqu'en 2001 et entre 2001 et 2005 fut engag?e dans les championnats europ?ens.
Depuis, la voiture a ?t? ? nouveau compl?tement restaur?e, ch?ssis, carrosserie, bo?te, moteur, extincteurs, etc... et a particip? ? seulement quatre courses depuis la fin de la restauration en 2016. Le vendeur nous signale qu'elle est absolument authentique, le seul ?l?ment majeur chang? ?tant le radiateur (celui d'origine ayant ?t? endommag? dans un accrochage mineur). Tout les reste est d'origine et en excellent ?tat, la livr?e blanc/ bleu est la m?me que celle dans laquelle la voiture a couru en 1966.
