Austin Seven two-seater special, Car registered as BGH 630 (Talbot?) on 11th July 1934.
Very reliable car with extensive competition and Ulster Vintage Car Club history including Craigantlet and Cultra Hillclimbs and many Trials, Rallies and Driving Tests - first event post-build was on 6 April 2013 - car has finished, and has made it home under it’s own steam from all events since!
Currently MOT’d (in 2013, now exempt) and Taxed (free).
Well sorted LWB chassis bought from Don Rawson in 2006 and built up over the next seven years. Finished car weights 320kg with near-perfect corner weights - front 21% each side and rear 29% each side – good lively Austin Seven with an excellent power-to-weight ratio.
Two-bearing engine runs post ’37 later head, retains starting handle (never needed) semi-deep finned alloy sump with extended pickup. New rad core build into Chummy top and bottom tanks – always run up to temperature before use. Car fully re-wired (all new Lucas kit) and converted to 12v with (detachable) alternator conversion running off shortened dynamo design (outside of distributor). Master Switch in dash in front of passenger. Lucas DLB105 Coil. MG Rev-counter driven off coil. Bosch distributor with red rotor-arm and Accuspark Ignitor Kit. New in 2012 (not re-built) SU 1. 25” carb with No. 6 needle and blue spring on John Barlow inlet manifold, 20L alloy fuel tank, 4-branch exhaust manifold into single-silencer side exhaust. Gearbox is a 22/ 29 'Intermediate' close ratio unit built by Andy Bird in May 2015, Ruby prop. Five of 19” wheels (thick spoke) in excellent condition shod with Longstone tyres, spare wheel never used. Bodywork comprises F/ G chummy-copy radiator cowl, all alloy in orange satin paint with black interior, construction is by alloy hand rivets where accessible and brass bolts elsewhere, detachable bonnet for full access, two Brooklands aeroscreens, F/ G battery box, steering column (early) wedge with ‘long nut’, cycle mudguards in alloy, upholstered seats in black, corded/ varnished steering wheel. Full tonneau. Standard ride-height springs, front double-damper by David Cochrane.
