We are delighted to present for sale this British Army Cooking Outfit (MKII), designed for use feeding soldiers whilst on exercise!
The trailer attaches to a standard NATO style hitch, and is photographed on the rear of one of our Land Rover® Lightweights – it is in effect a Sankey Trailer with cooking equipment fitted inside. The trailer has electrics too, for safe use out on the road – it is easy to hitch on, and takes a matter of moments – essential when needing to move on quickly to feed the next lot of troops!
We bought this trailer from an enthusiasts military collection – he used to use it for cooking many years ago, then packed it up and put it into dry storage – where it has been since – he noted that it was fully operational when packed away, and that he used to use it on weekends away with the family – on the back of his Land Rover® camper! Sadly, old age meant that he was unable to keep using it, and this is how it came into our possession.
The waterproofed canvas unzips at both sides – this reveals the main interior of the trailer, which has tables which come down on each side – creating three additional prep surfaces in total (as photographed). The trailer burners and ovens operate on twin gas bottles – and a large amount of CES kit comes with it too – plates, utensils, cooking pots and pans, fire extinguishers, pressure cookers, fire blankets and the twin ovens at the back – again, all pictured. The canvas then acts as a hood over the cooking area so that the burners and ovens stay dry.
One of our staff, an ex-military REME mechanic, reminisced about being fed by one of these in times past – and said they were mainly used for BBQ’s whilst on exercise…. he was fed by them in both Poland and Germany, whilst on training exercises where they would be away from base for days at a time. We have simply gone through all the kit, cleaned it, sorted it, and packed it in accordance with the MOD manual which came with it (which will be included at point of sale to the new owner, so they can see how it goes together and collapses again!). It is actually very quick and easy to set up and put away – clearly designed for efficiency when having to move around quickly and keep the troops fed.
This trailer would be ideal for those who attend war weekends and want an authentic cooking experience, businesses in the food industry who want an easy to use and fully fitted kitchen that can be hooked up and moved around, or for those who are fans of ‘al fresco’ cooking and dining – it can be set up almost anywhere, and even comes with the pegs to pitch it… it doesn’t HAVE to be pitched for quick use and can be used freestanding, as it is pictured here, but it is nice to have the option… and now it can be used for its intended purpose once again.
