We are delighted to present for sale this famous Land Rover® Series 2a, which has been part of the National Lottery 2020 Christmas Campaign. The vehicle was professionally wrapped in a bespoke ‘Christmas Present’ Vinyl, by The Wrapping Centre in Leeds. It was used to deliver festive hampers to those who have cared for the elderly during the pandemic throughout the North of England, which was done by local lottery winners and well documented within the National Press & BBC News. The vehicle has then been stripped back to its original Deep Bronze Green colour scheme with a sand canvas, and is now offered for sale.
The exterior of the vehicle is largely standard – this is a rare crossover Series 2a model, only produced between 1969 and 1971, with Maltese grill and lights in the wings. 750 tyres and free wheeling hubs are fitted to improve fuel economy and extend the gearing, to allow quieter cruising. There are lots of period features – with vintage numberplates, rear grab handles and wing-top mounted mirrors to name a few. A towball and electrics has been fitted to allow towing, which is a handy addition. The canvas and sticks are new items, as the vehicle was in ‘truck cab’ format for the campaign.
The interior of the vehicle remains in the standard Deep Bronze Green colour scheme – there are three standard seats to the front, with the deluxe matting to the footwells. As can be seen from the photos, the vehicle has a bespoke heating system for the coldest weather – the previous keeper was a plumber and wanted his vehicle to have far more effective heating than standard – as a result this vehicle really does get very hot inside quickly when you need it. The rear is unfitted, with the exception of a rear load mat, but could house bench seats on request to increase seating to seven occupants including the driver.
Out on the road, this Series has a very well sorted feel – with tight steering and strong brakes, as well as a very fit petrol engine unit – it will sit quite happily at 55mph, and will go far quicker than is required. The period colour scheme turns a great many heads as you drive along.
In summary, if you are looking for a soft-top Series 2a, which you can use in all weathers and climates, then this could be for you. With MOT & Tax Exemption, along with classic insurance, it should prove to be both a solid investment for the future (especially with the provenance) and cheap to run too.
