This fantastic MKII Ford Cortina has been subject of a recent full restoration and built as a replica of the Ex Team Lotus, Alan Mann Racing 1967 Ford Cortina MKII Competition Saloon. Our Cortina was off the road from 1988 and in 2019 bought it need of total restoration. The car was then subject of a full bare shell rebuild and a huge file of invoices are with the car, along with some photos.
The Ford was completely stripped down to a bare shell, taken back to bare metal, and completely rebuilt. The body was totally rebuilt and fully re-painted, including the underside and put into Alan Mann racing livery. The interior was superbly re-fitted and re-trimmed as required and clearly the restoration was carried out with a keen eye for detail with a superb show quality engine bay and underside finish.
The 2. 0 pinto engine was stripped down and fully rebuilt with +75 pistons and new rings, the crankshaft re-ground and treated to a new oil pump, new water pump, standard Ford camshaft, new double valve springs, and rebuilt cylinder head. The car was also treated to a new RS2000 manifold and downpipe, Capri exhaust system, alloy radiator, electric fan, silicone hoses, new plug leads, electronic AccuSpark coil, electronic distributor and new clutch. The braking system was treated to an Escort servo, Escort M16 Calipers and discs, braided hoses, Escort MKII half shafts, bearings, cylinders, shoes and drums to the rear. The suspension was rebuilt with new tack control arms, new inner and outer track rod ends, the steering box rebuilt and all new bushes to the front and rear.
Since completion, the Ford has covered almost 500 miles and has arrived with us in exceptional condition. The bodywork is first class, paintwork superb and engine bay and underside are outstanding. The car is fantastic fun to drive, lots of power, and the interior delightful and really adds to the positive driving experience. With its quick, enhanced rebuilt engine, superb five speed gearbox and rebuilt braking, steering and suspension, this is incredible fun on the road and is a very sought after two door enhanced, modified Cortina that has been rebuilt as a replica of a very special race car. Its fantastic fun, it holds the road well, the engine pulls superbly with impressive oil pressure so this is a car ready to have some fun with.
