Arguably one of the most appealing pre-war Fords, the 1937 DeLuxe Model 78 represented a huge leap forward for the Blue Oval. Benefiting from the more active influence of Edsel Ford and the talent of designer E. T. Gregorie, the entire range of 1937 Fords had a clean, aerodynamic appearance that was comparable to the most modern machinery of the day. Integrated headlamps and a sharply vee’d radiator, which was echoed in the windshield, were new for 1937. Performance was upgraded as well. The flathead V-8 engine now delivered 85 hp and was equipped with more durable accessories that improved its reliability and performance. Available in a wide range of body styles, the open DeLuxe models have long been favorites of collectors.
