At the beginning of the millennium, Porsche introduced the 996 Turbo to replace the last of the air cooled models and compared to the outgoing 993, it was a completely redesigned thoroughly sophisticated all weather supercar. Equipped with four-wheel-drive and a 3. 6 litre, twin-turbocharged intercooled flat-six with 4 valve heads, it produced 420BHP and unlike the standard the Carrera models, this was a Mezger designed unit derived from the GT1 race cars. It was available new with either a 5-speed Tiptronic transmission or 6-speed manual gearbox and was highly specified as standard.
In 2002 an optional X50 power upgrade was offered featuring larger K24 turbochargers and intercoolers, revised ECU and the power was raised to 450BHP. Performance was phenomenal at the time and frankly still pretty impressive today with 0-60mph coming up in just over 4 seconds, before powering on to a top speed of 192mph.
It seems incredible the first of these cars are now 20 years old and even more remarkable that they offer near supercar performance and dynamics for the money. Make no mistake, a 996 Turbo particularly when equipped with a manual gearbox and desirable X50 power upgrade, will leave very few wanting for much more on our roads today.
We are pleased to offer this 2004 manual coupe for sale, a car we have supplied previously and finished in the desirable combination of Polar Silver Metallic with Metropole Blue leather interior and factory fitted from new with the X50 power upgrade. It is very highly specified, has covered just 29, 789 miles from new and presents in near immaculate condition throughout. Aside from the lengthy option list below it has recently been fitted with a Porsche PCCM unit, which not only adds a modern and current level of connectivity for the user, it looks fantastic too.
