Description
For sale a very rare original low(ish) mileage 205 XS with the much more desirable TU3s engine.
I've owned the vehicle since 2012, and covered approximately 10k miles in that time. It's been a daily driver for a lot of that time and used most over the last 2/ 3 years with 100% reliability. General maintenance and occasional repair carried out during my ownership but nothing major.
The body shell is in very good condition, with only cosmetic attention required if you want a perfect car; it has minor dents and scratches to most panels and only the tiniest specs of rust starting to appear on the o/ s 1/ 4 panel forward of the rear arch. The paintwork is fairly bright and shiny although occasional polishing is required to maintain this. In an ideal world the car would need a respray to be an A1 example.
The engine is very strong, with no oil leaks or oil usage, it pulls very well, although it could maybe benefit from the carb set up being checked and maybe tuned. The exhaust has been replaced over the last 6 years in sections, down pipe being the most recent.
Gear change is fantastic, none of the usual play in the linkage. Clutch operates with no judder or slip.
Wheels are 1. 6 Gti items that I had lying around from a previous car - x2 speed line x2 smr, fitted with matching hancooks 1500 miles ago. They were painted with a rattle can years ago, so not a great finish but look presentable enough. I also have the original XS 13" alloys - Roland Garros type. These have old tyres fitted and could use a re-furb.
Suspension is all standard/ original and in good order.
The car has all its original glass, etched with reg number and old security stickers to prove.
The interior in general is fantastic for a 30-year-old 205. The driver’s seat has the usual squashed bolster on the base and threadbare bolster on the back. Passenger seat is near perfect with only a very small hole on the headrest. Carpet is completely undamaged and free of major staining. Dash, steering wheel, headlining all very very good. The car has the original Phillips stereo but unfortunately the code has been lost, so it turns on but doesn't play.
Work carried out this year includes full service, cam belt and water pump and wheel bearing.
I don’t have lots of history, the car came to me without a service file and I’ve either carried out work myself or had a (professional) friend do the work for me. The values have increased recently to the point I wish I had kept better records but that’s only in hindsight!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this little car, but the time has come to sell – partly due to lack of space and partly due to redirecting money into another vehicle.
If you have any questions, want more info or would like to view the car, please contact me anytime (but ideally after 7pm) and I’ll be happy to help. Looking for £5000 (ono after viewing).
