Here we have for sale, new in at the Bike Specialists, another super rare excellent investment opportunity. The Massimo Tamburini designed Ducati 916 is probably the most influential motorcycle design of the last 30 years and our example is a unique and rare 916 SP/ 955 SPA road legal race bike with a 955 factory race engine that was supplied to the race teams for the 1996/ 97 AMA season. Just 51 of these bikes were produced world wide with this UK example having covered just 2, 099 Kilometres and being one of only 20 that were sold in the UK.
The Ducati database shows 51 frame numbers assigned to the 916 SP/ 955 SPA ranging from VIN’s ending in 7068 to 7118. Ducati needed to homologate the engine to use in the AMA race series in 1996 so they essentially took the 1996 916 SP3 and created a 955 version with the 955 engine. These were brought to the US as AMA homologation rules required the bikes to be in the US for a specific amount of time, and once that time lapsed the bikes that were unsold were shipped out of the US and were sold in other countries. There were only about a dozen that got sold for by dealers in the US so even though this was an “SP America” only a small portion of the bikes stayed in the US.
To the best of our knowledge this is the only 916/ 955 SPA currently for sale anywhere and there wont be a better example available than this one so don't miss this opportunity to purchase an asset that will only rise in value.
