We are delighted to present for sale this 1971 Land Rover® Series 3 Ragtop, presented in the popular Light Pastel Green colour configuration with Limestone Wheels.
Externally, there are lots of desirable features – the razor edge bonnet, vintage numberplates, rear grabhandles, towbar and electrics to allow towing, larger defender-style door mirrors and side steps to aid getting in and out of the vehicle, which is a helpful addition. There is a recent canvas and sticks in the sand colour too, which we think looks good. The bodywork is of a spray finish, and it is ‘straighter’ than many we see – these Series tend to ripple over time due to being made of aluminium but this one has survived remarkably well, as the photos show. In our opinion, the classic look with these modern upgrades makes a tasteful vintage look, without the need for so much compromise on modern convenience.
On the inside this Series is largely standard, there are a set of three front seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. There is a pair of door cards fitted, which give a premium feel. The rear is unfitted with an exception of a floor mat to the rear, but could house bench seats on request for £495 to make this into a seven seater vehicle including the driver.
Out on the road, this Series 3 drives just as it should – the petrol engine is smooth, and pulls well to speed. It also stops just as it should. It delivers a pleasing period drive, with slightly increased fuel economy over standard thanks to the Free Wheeling Hubs. It is nice that there are no frilly additions, as it means an authentic classic experience which puts a smile on your face.
In summary, if you are looking for an MOT & Tax Exempt Series 3 Land Rover® which also benefits from classic insurance too, then this could be for you – all of these combined gives the potential for a low-hassle ownership experience, whilst also being a solid investment going forward into the future.
