We are delighted to present for sale this 1962 Land Rover® Series 2a, in ex-military format.
Externally, there are lots of period features one would hope to see – the front bridging plate, 750 tyres, bonnet mounted spare, recent canvas, wing mounted mirrors, rear lamp guards, rear grab handles and vintage plates. The vehicle is painted in the original military colour scheme, with the drab olive bodywork and green wheels, and we think the culmination of all these items gives an attractive, period looking vehicle.
On the inside, the period theme continues. There are 3 standard front seats, with deluxe matting in the footwells. The twin individual wiper motors survive, which is great to see, as often these are missing, or replaced. The rear is unfitted, but could house bench seats on request for £395.
Out on the road, this old girl delivers a pleasing period driving experience, aided by the larger tyres to give more gearing, and the carburettor, which gives more power than standard. The tyres are also self cleaning and have a flat middle portion, meaning that the best compromise between off road and on-road ability is achieved.
In summary, if you are looking for a period Series 2a in the ex-military style, then this could be for you. This is very much a ‘stock’ 2a – which has no nasty additions and therefore would be perfect for a new owner to personalise as they wish. With MOT & Tax Exemption, along with classic insurance, it should also prove to be cost-effective to run long-term.
