Dino street cars saw the light of day due to Enzo Ferrari's need to homologate a V6 engine to Formula 2 race cars By 1965, the Commission Sportive Internationale de la FIA had drafted new rules to be adopted for the 1967 season. F2 engines should have no more than six cylinders and be derived from a production engine from a street car that was homologated in the GT class and produced in at least 500 samples within 12 months
When a small manufacturer like Ferrari in the mid-60s did not have the production capacity to reach such quotas, an agreement was entered into with Fiat to produce the 500 engines needed for the homologation,
The Fiat-built V6 ended up being installed in two very different vehicles. Namely the Fiat Dino Grand Tourer with front engine assembled by Fiat and in Ferrari's first series-produced sports car with center engine,
This is a model 1972 Fiat Dino coupe 2400,
