Description
One of the very first examples, fully restored, in exceptional condition.
This Dino holds the Certificate of Historic and Collectors' Importance (C. R. S.) from A. S. I. (Italian Historic Car Club), affiliated with FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens).
The €78, 000 appraisal was carried out by Dinopoint.
I am breaking it in and I can tell you the engine is fantastic! The handling is excellent (despite its solid live axle, as the Ferrari 250 GTO was also equipped with…), and the braking is surprisingly effective: it’s a car you’ll fall in love with!
It is necessary to debunk the unfounded legend that the 2400 version would be superior: the 2000 is fitted with the original aluminium engine that raced and won in Formula 2, designed by Corradino “Dino” Ferrari, while the 2400 has a cast‑iron engine and weighs 120 kg more (1, 400 kg vs 1, 280 kg). The power-to-weight ratio between the two (1, 400/ 180 and 1, 280/ 160) differs by only 5%. Moreover, the driving of the 2400 is much more tiring, because the higher weight is accentuated by the greater contact area of the tyres 205/ 14 (compared with 185/ 14 for the 2000). Finally, only the 2400 needed electric power-assisted steering, at a cost of €3, 500. The aluminium engine performed very well on circuits with straight sections under 2 km, but struggled to rev to 5, 500–6, 000 rpm for hours on the motorway. Thus, if you wish to use the Dino not only for pleasure on varied routes but also for long trips, simply change the final drive and the engine revs drop (as in sixth).
The 2000 is the first model to come from the project. The Ferrari Dino 206 is also very valuable because it has the original Dino engine, to such an extent that it is worth about twice a 246.
The car is located in Gallarate, only 6 kilometres from Milan Malpensa International Airport (MXP). If you’d like to come and try it, I’d be delighted to welcome you at the terminal and drive you to my workshop.
