We are very pleased to offer a very rare low mileage 1990 Rover Mini Cooper RSP. Finished in British racing Green with a contrasting white roof and bonnet stripes, this sexy Mini Cooper has covered only 62 in 32 years. It was registered in August 1990 and supplied by Paul Huxford Rover dealers in Fareham in Hampshire so it has not travelled far and still has its original dealer number plates. It is accompanied with the original service and handbooks and a raft of service receipts including every MOT certificate. It has receipts dating back to 1991 so it also has excellent provenance. RSP was a special department inside Rover and it stood for "Rover Special Products". 1600 RSP Minis were produced as a pre production Mini Cooper, 1050 stayed in the UK in three colours and very few remain in this condition. They have many unique details that were only ever fitted to the RSP such as the Tudor sunroof, Minilite wheels with a unique stud pattern, embossed leather seats, colour coded arches and mirrors and unique spotlights. They have always been a very coveted edition as they are true carb Cooper and real drivers machines.
On the road this Cooper is a real experience to drive. The 1275 engine is super smooth and free revving and the gearbox has a slick and precise change. RSP Minis were fitted with the MG Metro engine and they are known to perform like a good Cooper should. They also have an oil cooler. This RSP benefits from a Swiftune cylinder head with Hi lift rockers and a LCB exhaust, the performance will certainly surprise. It pulls well through all the gears and easily competes with the modern stuff. This model also has wider profile tyres to improve handling, Koni shocks and servo operated brakes.
The interior is very well preserved. The original half leather seats and red carpets are present and correct and the roof liner is unmarked. This example benefits from some period interior extras that were available at the time through John Cooper garages, namely the full length walnut dashboard and matching walnut door caps, not forgetting the beautiful John Cooper garages steering wheel. The dash has the correct three dial binnacle with a rev counter and it also has three auxiliary dials giving oil pressure, volts and time. The original Rover Cassette player is all present and correct and it also has the correct sunroof made by Tudor Webasto and it still has the operating manual with it. This model also features rear seat belts and the original Pirelli spare wheel is unused.
This RSP has a very well preserved body shell and its been a pleasure to work on. This is an unrestored example and it wears its vintage very well. It has its original vented sills, body coloured floor pans and wheel arches, boot floor and a solid rear subframe. We have fully serviced it and checked it and it also has a long no advisory MOT. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a real piece of Classic Mini Cooper history that will be happy to sit on display or making you smile out on the open road where it belongs.
