Description
PRICE REDUCED for quick sale was £34, 000 now £29, 750.
Alvis made about 1300 TA21s of which about 1000 used saloon bodies by Mulliners & 300 Drop Head Coupes bodies from Tickfords. This is one of the 154 Drop Head Coupes thought to have survived. Alvis sold worldwide & only about 80 of these are left in the UK.
All but the first few were fitted with a smooth and powerful 3 litre 6 cylinder in line engine with twin SU carburettors, as is this example.
Although the TA21 looked very similar to the pre-war TA14, it was engineering revolution & featured new more rounded wings with rear wheel covers and faired-in headlamps, bringing the styling up to date.
Under the skin the TA21 benefited from new hydraulic brakes and independent coil-sprung front suspension.
Tickford, coach built the TA21 into a beautiful cabriolet with a 3 position coupe de ville hood (the convertible hood can be open, closed or a mid position with driver's position open-topped and the rear passengers enclosed). The TA21DHC was one of the early post-war greats.
This attractive TA21 DHC has been with its present owners since 1998, having been restored in around 1989-90 by renowned AOC members Brian Bowler and family, from near Crewe. The Bowlers were unable to recover the seized engine and fitted a substitute engine from a contemporary TA21 saloon. First registered on 8th October 1951 Chassis number 24332, starts on the button and drives well. A regular attender at the Classic car shows at Amberley museum and many other Sussex shows. Maintained and nurtured by the present owners and garaged inside, but a new owner is now needed to take over for the next twenty years.... Minor cosmetic body blemishes hence a realistic price of £34, 000 will secure this lovely car.
Viewing in central Sussex. Call Jim on the details below for more information or to request more photographs by email.
