Here at The Bike Specialists we offer the opportunity to own this BFO Switch:Blade, a unique one of just four hand built custom machines produced by BFO Motorcycles who were based in Coventry. They specialised in building specials, manufacturing custom components and with this they took an engine from a 1998 ‘Honda FireBlade, wrapped a custom frame around the Honda motor and then fitted an unbelievable array of components including custom rear-sets, yokes, various billeted parts and the frame itself a work of art.
This bike itself was the blueprint bike of which the other 3 examples were modelled off. Although it is a totally custom frame, the geometry is the same as that of the donor ’Blade. The frame is made from 7020 aluminium, as used by Spondon. The culmination of billet, aluminium and many carbon components resulted in a bike weighing in at just 138kg. The subframe is a self-supporting carbon unit with Dymag carbon wheels. A fully adjustable Showa shock looks after the rear, while the front forks are upgraded Ohlins topped off with Brembo brakes.
The bike is supplied with a host of paperwork, receipts, old MOT's and a memory stick featuring the original Fast Bikes 5 page article about the bike. Uniquely the motorcycle is also offered with the original pattern design, which is cut from MDF tooling block. Also offered is the tooling to recreate the body; This is made from carbon fibre the reason being was so multiple bodies could be made. To create the tooling would cost in the region of £15, 000. This is a piece of British motorcycle history and would recommend it to be all kept together. Also offered is the donor bike which has a 1st generation engine and was reconditioned. The bike itself was immaculate so had to be rebuilt, replacing all the parts removed
