HERE is yet another 1960s vehicle from my very own classic car stable. As ever, my prices offer what arguably may be the best value for money classics in the UK. My business has celebrated 15 years of successfully sourcing antique vehicles and then re-homing them with their happy new owners. So now, here is my 1961 MGA 1600 Mark II fixed head coupe
This mega rare coupe is a 1961 1600 Mark II, that is to say one of the last of the marque to be built. Just 219 Mark II coupes were built for the home market across 1961 and 62 thus making this an undoubted rare survivor. It comes with its original buff log book and an interesting history file. It looks as though it was taken off the road around 1980 and then subjected to restoration work in 2018. There are photos from that year to substantiate this.
Coupes, at one stage, lagged well behind the MGA roadster in terms of value. That has changed over the past few years as people have begun to appreciate the beauty of their stunning curved design so created by the fixed head. This 1600 Mark II was the final model with the engine capacity being increased from just under 1600cc to 1622cc.
This old girl starts, goes through the gears and stops. Her oil pressure is very good and she feels lively. She looks to be sound underneath and overall is a pretty enough thing. She could do with some cosmetic fettling here and there such as a bonnet hinge replacing (it's snapped and not caused by rot), a new door catch plate to the driver's side and the passenger door fettling to that it fits a bit better. Not a great big list but I am keeping the price remarkably low in order to give the next owner a fighting chance ha ha. Interior is not too bad and the red leather looks to be original. The history file reveals that it is an October 1961 car and was originally black.
You will find it exceptionally difficult to find a better example at the price I am asking.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 61-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply.
