But one day when things start to sell again someone will purchase a well maintained Discovery 1 Commercial

Yes I know it's a long way if you are south of Carlisle or Manchester but sometimes one has to travel to get the best available.
Special Vehicles commercial, registered on the V5 as Light 4x4 Utility
Have owned this vehicle for 7 years, never failed an mot in that time
Once you get these set up correctly they are pretty reliable and easy to work on and with no electronics they wont let you down.
To be fair they are a very underrated vehicle and better on the road than a 90 or 110 (my opinion)
Good Engine, Good Gearbox, good transfer box ( very quiet )
Diff lock works as it should and tell tail light on dash is working
Hi / Lo working without any problems
Was for sale last year but decided I was better off to keep it a bit longer till I found another vehicle that suited our needs
That vehicle has now been found so lets see if anyone wants this Discovery Van
What has been done in my ownership in no particular order.
12V 110Ah 750A, 643 644 Heavy Duty Commercial Battery 4x4 MF31-750 Fitted ( the biggest that will fit the space)
Sump taken off and shells checked at 195K
Perfect journals with next to no wear so new set of shells fitted just because I had them in the workshop
New sump and gasket fitted
Cylinder head gasket replaced and head skimmed as slight leak on No4 cylinder
Cam belt replaced at 195K
Brake pump replaced with new unit
2 new rear springs fitted
Shocks all round
New alloy radiator
No fan fitted, ( it's in the back with the viscous spanner should you want to fit it )
It doesn't need one , even on a hot day it will just sit at normal temperature
Injector pump re-calibrated and set to standard settings ( no boost pin alterations, all standard )
New injectors
New brake master cylinder
New front swivels
New Front Discs
New Front Callipers and pads
New Rear Callipers Fitted
Rear discs and pads replaced
All joints on steering replaced
Prop shaft replaced with a 200 TDI unit so no rear rubber Doughnut to break up and let you down
inner and outer sills repaired 3 years ago.
( just been under the vehicle today and everything's all ok
so while I was under there I have undersealed the sills again with brushable underseal)
body has a few marks here and there but nothing that would make you run a mile
New steel wheels fitted just because the alloys tend to develop rim leaks
Mileage is now 239200 ( averaging 10K a year)
Don't let the mileage put you off, this engine is on the button with good emissions
This was originally a diesel fitters vehicle so has covered mostly motorway / road miles ,
never been used off road or green lane'd to my knowledge and always serviced on time
( probably why the engine is so good)
starts first time every time, unless I forget to switch on the kill switch!

Tow bar fitted with trailer 7 pin and 13 pin sockets
also caravan 12S socket
Van is kitted out as our dog van with cages for our Spaniels
can easily be taken out, take about an hour,
Not much more I can say, look at the pictures
if its for you then 3K will buy it

These are getting rare especially in standard trim and looking at whats been done to it
I can't see there being many problems in the near future
In fact due to some of the silly offers which I am getting even though the ad says No offers I'm in two minds whether to keep it .
Forgot to say the heater works 100% as does the blower motor works on all speeds.
Wind driven rotating roof vent fitted, ideal for pets
CB antenna fitted ( DV27 whip )
electric windows working
central locking works
I don't think there is anything that doesn't work.
Diesel fuel water trap fitted in the engine bay so fuel goes through that before going to the lift pump.
The Diesel Fuel Sedimentor filter fitted on the chassis just forward of the rear wheel has been removed
as they are in a place thats awkward to get to and usually overlooked on a service.

I have tried to be as honest as I can be but just remember
When buying a second hand or pre owned vehicle it's not going to be new nor is it going to be immaculate
Nothing is new or immaculate unless it's still in it's box in the showroom so don't let anyone tell you any different
Just make sure you buy the best you can afford.
Personally I don't drive new cars,
(been there done that and too many electrical problems )
and nowadays I'd much rather have something a bit older and more reliable
and thats exactly what you get with a 300 tdi Discovery

While out the other day following a truck a stone came up and chipped the screen.
A new windscreen and trim has now been fitted , Can't be fairer than that, just hate something thats not right!
Being a well-maintained vehicle, and many new parts fitted, the next owner can be confident that this brilliant all-rounder has many more years of service left in it.
