Beskrivning
A pristine uk example of the military derived and delightfully utilitarian g-class or “g-wagon”
with an interesting history and scotland based since new, the vehicle underwent a full restoration between 2019 and 2020
with low, original mileage and low ownership makes this a very rare example of this iconic off-roader
• it is understood that this g-wagon was supplied new in 1987 via a dealer in aberdeen, scotland
• it is believed that early owners were two brothers who used the vehicle in and around the alvie estate in kincraig, inverness-shire
• one brother passed the vehicle to the other and the vehicle feel into disuse
• the previous owner later saw the vehicle languishing in a barn on the estate and agreed to purchase it
• this acquisition in 2010 was followed by the g-wagon going into dry storage for another nine years
• in 2019 the current owner, the brother of the previous owner, acquired it
• at that point a full restoration was commissioned and undertaken by a mercedes benz trained technician
• with the work completed in 2020 the g-wagon was then professionally resprayed at that point
• the g-wagon comes with a great level of paperwork and provenance
• key amongst these are the original operating manual and service book
• the service book is partially stamped showing maintenance to around 36, 000 miles in 1989
• there is a big archive of invoices from throughout the history of the car
• the current mot, valid to august 2022, is included together with previous hard-copy mot’s
• the vendor is happy to put a fresh mot on the vehicle subject to sale
• whilst intended for utilitarian use, the interior of the w460 is somewhat better appointed than other equivalent vehicles from other makers
• the signature large, checked seat fabric, or “grob karo,” is in excellent condition and extends to the upper portion of the door cards
• the contrasting, hard-wearing grey carpets are protected by fitted carpet mats
• the large centre console, dash panel and lower door cards are finished in hard wearing padded vinyl, appropriate to an able off-roader of this nature
• there are a number of supplemental levers in the centre console which operate the four-wheel drive system and the three separate locking differentials
• a rear folding bench seat appears to be in an as-new condition and is finished with the same checked fabric as the fronts
• the luggage area is carpet trimmed and protected with a corded, carpet mat set
• endearingly the original heavy-duty jack and tool role are present in the car
this is a lovely interior. Clearly very expertly restored to a very original condition, it is a delight to behold. It is a surprisingly jolly interior too. Very practical and durable but also a nice place to be and to enjoy the high driving position afforded by the w460
the exterior
• finished in newly painted, pristine black this short wheelbase g-wagon looks amazing
• the flat sides combined with the short wheelbase configuration and big, chunky tyres give this car the look of a serious off-roader that would also fit in on the kings road
• light guards, hella driving lights and big, plastic wheel arch extensions all help to emphasise the rugged stature of the w460
• the five-spoke, 15-inch alloy wheels have recently been repainted and refurbished and are presented in matt black
• these are shod in chunky, cooper discoverer tyres which are in an “as-new” condition
• even the underside of the car appears to be in fine fettle
• road springs, shock absorbers and suspension bushes all appear to be new and are accented in red
• rare bush guard, worth £1, 400 alone, is included. (bull bar is only dry fixed)
• other elements of the underside are presented in black and protected by generous applications of underbody paint
the w460 is already a purposeful looking vehicle. Its flat sided, short wheelbase configuration making it an architype for a rough, tough utility vehicle. This example takes that rugged ambiance and lends it an air of refinement and sophistication. The paintwork, wheels and tyres combine to make for a vehicle that will turn heads and raise smiles in equal measure. the mechanics
• this example of the g-wagon is fitted with the 2, 299 cc, in-line four-cylinder m115 e23 engine
• power is fed to a choice of two or four wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox
• the car offers true, off-roading potential with three locking differentials and low range gears
• considered by many as the pick of the range the 2. 3l offers a winning combination of power and economy
• in-line with the rest of the vehicle the mechanical systems have been fully restored
• as a resulted they are reported to be in excellent working condition throughout
with less than 80, 000 original miles covered and a full and fastidious restoration completed in 2020, this is a g-wagon in an excellent mechanical condition and ready to take its new owner on new adventures, be they off or on road.
right hand drive and uk supplied w460’s are already a rare commodity. Vehicles boasting this level of fully restored condition, low original mileage and fascinating provenance must be vanishingly few and far between. That degree of rarity inevitably feeds into demand, value and desirability.
that must make this one of the most desirable w460 g-wagons to have become available for a very long time. Who knows when another one of this calibre may come to market? if you like your off-roaders chunky, capable and beautifully engineered then look no further
