A unique and unrepeatable Mark 2 in Gunmetal Grey, which has been the subject of not just one, but two rebuilds by renowned classic Jaguar specialists. A huge file details the work which was carried out at enormous expense to very exacting standards. The car was exported new to New Zealand where, 20 years later in the late 80's, it was completely rebuilt to as-new standard specification by Beacham. The car was repatriated to the UK in 1990 and was purchased 14 years ago, still in very good condition, by an enthusiastic and fastidious new owner. He took it to specialists CMC who gave the car another complete make-over in line with his requirements. The result is a triumph of good taste, with an as-new finish and standard external appearance but with tasteful upgrades to the interior using XJ300 heated seats and centre console while retaining the original dash. Front headroom has been increased by modification of the head lining. Interior heating and ventilation has been improved with ducted air to the rear. Mechanically, the original 3. 8 engine and all-synchro overdrive box were rebuilt and the engine compartment beautifully detailed. A high-torque starter motor replaces the original. An improved radiator and electric fan take care of cooling. Brakes were upgraded with 4-pot calipers on the front and later-spec calipers on the rear. The handling is improved by the fitment of uprated springs and dampers front and rear, improved anti-roll bar, uprated bushes, and wider competition-spec wire wheels with Pirelli P4000 tyres. Powered rack and pinion steering is fitted. Custom profiled rear arches complement the external appearance. Central locking, heated rear screen, heated front seats, improved heating and ventilation, better interior lighting and a hidden modern multi-speaker sound system are among the modern comforts which have been incorporated in to this car. If Jaguar had carried on making the Mk 2 into the 70's, this is the car that would have resulted. Private Sale: the details below
