Renault 25 For Sale. 1992 TXi Executive Auto. 129, 000 miles.
After 5 years I’m selling my 25. It’s a rare car now and possibly the last TXi Executive Automatic on the road (according to a certain website about how many left). I spent a few years looking for a nice 25 on and off, before I bought this one, in about 100 pieces. I fixed it up and have been driving it daily during the summer for the last few years. Now I’ve come across a new project and need the space asap.
The good points about the car. The bodywork is really good and could easily pass for a 5 year old car. It drives really nicely and I’ve driven all over the UK and Ireland over the past few years. There is a partial service history with the car including a receipt for the installation of a replacement auto box. I’ve installed a new pressure sensor and various O-rings to the gearbox to minimise the oil leaks – but it still needs checking and topping up from time to time.
To put the car back on the road I’ve done the following work within the last 5000 miles:
New cylinder liners, piston rings and big end bearings. The head had the valve seats cut with new stem seals
· A new timing belt and tensioner was fitted at the same time, plus fan belts
· Steering rack tie rods, track rod ends & boots
· Front & rear discs & pads
· New rear springs.
· New rear wheel bearings with ABS rings (the ABS works)
· Auto gearbox service, filter and new pressure sensor costing about £300 alone
· Replacement door from outside Paris ????
· 2 new front tyres last month.
The less good points.
Overall, the car is really solid. A few years ago it failed an MOT on a small patch of corrosion, the same garage that failed it put a small patch on the underside, about 10cm x 7cm. I was planning to remove the rear wishbones and spare wheel carrier to have them powder coated as they are the most unsightly parts on the underside of the car, the front cross member could do with being cleaned and repainted. The car was parked in the previous owner’s garage for 7 years with a window open and was really dusty inside – I’ve cleaned it superficially but it would really come up well with a professional valet. Various switches are intermittently sticky, you can press a button to move a seat or open a window and have to tap it a few times to make it work. All of the switches should be taken out and cleaned internally. The sunroof is becoming obstructed with something that seems becoming dislodged from the inner roof skin.
The MOT is due next month and I’ll get a new one on it in the next few days. It’s located in Milton Keynes and I’m looking for offers in the region of £1800.
