Lotus Elan S3 Special Equipment 1968.
This is one of the last 500 S3's, and as such, has a number of the "Super Safety" features.
I have owned this very car twice, the first time being in the early 2000's, and again for the last two years.
Age, space, and the need to restrict myself to one classic means that this is a very reluctant sale.
This Elan was highly specified from new, with both the ultra close ratio (2. 5:1 first) gearbox, and the 3. 55 diff, making it one of very few left with this combination of drivetrain.
The engine was completely rebuilt in December 2019 (for the very first time), and had only done 40 miles when I bought the car. I've since completed 2500 miles, and it is nicely run-in.
It is a "matching numbers" car, and in a 4" thick history file, I have the original green logbook.
In 2008, the chap I sold it to, spent many £000's getting it as near perfect as he wished. The body was completely refurbed and painted by SMS, who also did the chassis change to a TTR 26R one.
The paint is still wonderful, and this S3 is surely one of the best examples in the UK today.
At a similar time, a TTR "comfort spec" complete adjustable suspension kit was fitted, along with new dash, hood, half tonneau, carpets, rear lamps, stainless exhaust , full suspension bushes, diff mounting rubbers, and much more.
Note that the car is still positive earth (as original), as the system was assessed during the restoration, and found to be in good order, and everything electrical still works perfectly.
The car has only completed c. 9500 miles since the body restoration.
I fitted a pair of Spyder driveshafts shortly after buying the car in 2020.
You would have to go a long way to find a better one.
