For Sale: Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite fiberglass recreation based on a 1976 MG Midget 1500.
This vehicle was put together roughly fifteen years ago, as a father son project during the mid 2000's, and subsequently sat in a garage until purchased by a friend of mine, who is the vehicles current keeper. He has asked me to list the car for sale due to his age, work commitments and the loss of his garage.
The vehicle is registered for historic TAX, due to it's age it is exempt from ULEZ emissions charges, it also has a recent MOT (expires 19th April 2023).
-The Good Bits:
Quite a lot of commissioning work was carried out; a new fuel pump, new fuel lines and filter, rear brakes overhauled and adjusted along with handbrake and replacement of one or more brake pipes, top end refreshed including a decoke and valve grinding, new gaskets and thermostat, new cooling system hoses, carburetors cleaned and adjusted, new PCV hoses, auxiliary temperature gauge fitted, new points and condenser, new ignition coil, timing set at 10 degrees BTDC, dwell set at 39 degrees, new spark plugs, new three point seat belts fitted, an oil cooler is fitted, along with a number of other things. The engine and gearbox feel good and strong, no whining or grinding.
Cold compression testing showed - Cyl 1 @ 160PSI, Cyl 2 @ 165PSI, Cyl 3 @ 170PSI, Cyl 4 @ 165PSI. You are welcome to verify this yourself if you wish.
-The Bad Bits:
The fuel tank sender unit is not connected, so the fuel gauge does not work, the rear suspension feels a little solid, though this could be due to the difference in weight between the original MG body and the fiberglass Austin Healey body, if it was up to me, I would fit a new radiator, not because the one that is fitted doesn't work, but because it has a bit of corrosion inside and some of the fins are a bit flat and prevent full airflow. The wing mirrors are useless, and I am not sure why they fitted them, but you can't see anything through them regardless of how you adjust them.
