2000 Insight, 236, 000 miles. Genuine UK market car. Manual. Oxygen blue.
The good:
Absolutely massive folder of history, including receipts for all work done in my ownership and the previous owner's. This car has had almost every problem Insights are known for and had them all fixed properly. I’ve just sat down and gone through the receipts folder and added up that I’ve put well over £2, 500 of parts alone into this car since I bought it, not including my own labour. I also have receipts for over £1, 700 of parts from the previous owner.
Genuine reason for sale – I bought this car as a lockdown project, it’s since served me well as a motorway mile muncher regularly doing 500+ miles a week across the country. Only selling as another dream car of mine has popped up as a price that’s too good to miss.
Engine runs sweet, a tiny bit of valvetrain rattle on cold start but they all do it, and dead quiet as soon as it begins to warm up. Uses no oil or coolant whatsoever, temperature stays solid in the correct location on the gauge (5 bars, just below the middle) even during town driving in the recent 40C heat. Gearbox has been refurbished and shifts perfectly, no whines or crunches. Engine oil has been changed regularly with genuine Honda green oil and Honda filter. Last change was in January. Brakes have been completely refurbished and replaced. The engine is squeaky clean internally, under the valve cover is not a speck of dirt or sludge, and no leaks of any kind externally.
Gearbox oil, coolant, brake and clutch fluid, air and cabin filters replaced in 2020 using genuine Honda parts (except brake and clutch fluid which has been flushed and replaced with DOT5. 1 standard fluid).
All underbody aero panels present and correct.
Drives lovely - IMA works correctly, no squeaks or rattles. Does need a grid charge occasionally, (approximately every 1000 miles if driven regularly, more often if you let it sit). Includes a high quality custom built grid charger and charging cable.
Passed MoT in February with no advisories (after an initial fail on cloudy headlights, they need a polish once a year.)
Averages 65mpg on short trips in the city, will do 80 on a run. My record is 101 over 50 miles.

14x6 Panasport Pro Rally ultralight wheels with new Avon ZT7 175/ 65 R14 tyres. Wheels are freshly refurbished and all tyres have 7mm tread. Custom centre caps with Honda logo.
All four original Insight wheels are available, with Michelin Energy Saver tyres with 5mm tread on the worst. These wheels are all in need of refurb as they have suffered corrosion to the diamond cut finish, but they’re perfectly usable as is, just ugly.
A-pillar trim clips replaced
Roof seams & clips resealed with Sikaflex 221 panel bond - all water leaks have been tracked down and sealed correctly, by removing the failed sealant and renewing it. This car is absolutely watertight and doesn’t leak a drop even in the heaviest rain, unlike most Insights.
Doors, roof and mid panel have both been fitted with Dodomat sound deadening which works very well to quiet the car down on the motorway.
Large amount of spares come with the car – everything I’ve bought but not fitted, original stereo, steering wheel, gearknob, 4x wheels with hubcaps + nuts, the original IMA battery (dead as a dodo, but would be useful as a spare chassis for lithium conversions, or rebuild it with new NiMH cells), + a box of other bits and bobs that I’ve got.
The bad:
Paintwork isn't great. The front of the car has many stonechips and a scuff on the passenger side bumper. The passenger side wing needs some attention, someone opened a door into it hard and damaged the paint. Rear bumper also has a badly repainted scuff on one corner. Some paint is bubbling and flaking away at the front edge of the roof, and some bubbling on the lower edge of the driver’s door. The rest of the car has many small scratches and scrapes, plus a grape-sized dent on either side over the rear wheels. All this occurred before my ownership, it looks fine from 10 feet away but won't win any beauty contests close up. Just last week it’s also picked up a new car park scuff, some kind soul has put a scrape about 2” by 2” square on the passenger side rear arch, it’s scraped the paint but not broken or dented anything.
Heated rear window barely works - the element in the glass itself is past it unfortunately. Not such an issue now the water has been banished.
AC was regassed last year but has stopped working again which means there's still a leak somewhere. The compressor, condenser and drier have all been replaced and the AC works fine when gassed up, I just haven't found where the gas leak is.
