This is a difficult listing for me as the truck belonged to my late brother Kev who we lost in June this year.
He'd always loved American cars and also owned a modified Corvette C3 for many years but last March decided to buy a pickup instead with the thought that he could get in and out of it more easily, although in the end he actually kept both.
Personally I've only driven it a few times - it rides and steers entirely as expected and it sounds fantastic but I have to be honest and say that other than having listened to the previous owner who I met when we went to view it, I don't know a great deal about the truck other than I'm told its of 1980/ 1981 vintage, was originally a US Army purchase and was first registered in the UK around 1988, possibly also through a US military personnel route which could have led to the 'Q' plate registration.
Overall the truck is really solid throughout having been thoroughly rebuilt & repainted, the interior has been re-trimmed and it's been converted from a 454 to a 5. 0 V8 so it's a genuinely good example. From posting an image of the truck on a 'Chevy Square Body' forum, Kev ended up in touch with the gentleman who completed the rebuild and engine swap and for the right buyer, that contact can be provided.
Although he only bought it last year, the gearbox gave up on him pretty quickly so a replacement TH400 automatic gearbox was sourced & rebuilt and at the same time, the problematic LPG conversion it had in place was removed (it hadn't run at all well with that in place but was much better afterward although I'd suggest it might benefit from a re-jet to suit petrol only as it runs a bit rich) plus the engine was serviced by a local mechanic who had looked after his Corvette for many years.
As I prefer to be transparent in my listings, I always mention bad points too and as a 40 odd year old vehicle, it’s always going to be a 'work in progress' to some extent (if you know your classic cars, you don't need me to tell you that) so the following are the things that have stood out to me so far;
• There is an area of paint that needs attention at the rear nearside quarter - this can be seen in one of the pictures
• The fog light bracket has snapped (it’s just a cheap aftermarket item)
• The driver's window is stiff and needs to be held within the guides as it rises or it can jump out of line
• The battery has a slow drain on it but there's a release system fitted to the negative terminal for when it's parked up
• There is a bit of an oil leak
• The heater controls need attention
If you're wondering about the photo location, it's currently housed in a factory unit we have as part of our pipework business which isn't used much hence it's attracted a few vehicles belonging to friends and family and you can just about see his Corvette parked behind before it was sold. If you're interested then viewing during working hours or evenings / weekends would be OK as I live close by and of course, if it progressed toward a sale point then full details of his home address and ownership information would also be provided.
