Description
Originally supplied by Scotland’s TVR main dealer ‘Chequered Flag’, this delightful Taimar was delivered to it first owner Mr. D Rudd on the 27th May 1980.
The M series TVR’s were originally launched in 1971 and developed over the next decade with the Taimar being the final iteration of this pretty British sports car with the benefit of an opening rear hatch. The opening glass hatchback alleviated the previous difficulty in the M Series cars of manoeuvring luggage over the seats to stow it in the cargo area. The hatch is opened electrically via a solenoid-actuated latch, triggered by a button on the driver’s doorjamb.
The Taimar was the first major change to the M Series body, but used the same mechanicals as the 3000M. This included rack and pinion steering, disc/ drum braking and coil springs with double wishbone suspension, and over its three-year production run a total of 395 normally aspirated cars were produced.
Featuring a much-improved heating and ventilation system and different suspension settings to the 3000M, the price when new was £6, 223 included ‘Sundym’ tinted glass and alloy wheels, while extras included a Webasto sunroof as fitted to our car.
Powered by Fords Essex 3 litre V6 producing a healthy 165bhp @ 4700rpm, this robust powerplant propelled this lightweight car to 60mph just 7. 7 seconds and on to a top speed 125mph whilst sounding fantastic through it’s twin exhaust system.
Offered in nice condition our ice blue metallic Taimar was fully repainted in 2021 and looks every inch the English classic sportscar with lovely flowing lines and period correct alloy wheels.
Clearly this TVR has been cherished throughout its life with a large pile service invoices stretching all the way back to the cars initial 6000 mile service.
Before delivery the car will be fully inspected in our workshop, serviced and supplied with a fresh MOT.
