We are delighted to present for sale this early Land Rover® Series 2, in Marine Blue with Limestone Wheels, which we have sold previously in 2018. Externally, there are lots of period features – the vintage number plates, rear grab handles, JB 4×4 750 tyres with matching bonnet spare, rear mud flaps and recent canvas to name a few. There are also some modern additions – like the larger mirrors to aid rear visibility and the tow ball and electrics to allow towing. In our opinion, we think the combination of these items gives a good looking, period vehicle with subtle upgrades aimed at making it more usable.
The interior is largely standard, with three front standard seats and deluxe matting to the footwells. It is nice to see the early metal spoke steering wheel survives, along with the individual wiper motors. The only notable addition is a pair of front door handles, helpful for getting in and out. In the rear, there is a pair of rear bench seats, which increases seating to seven occupants including the driver, and a heavy duty load mat to the floor to protect against damage and insulate against unwanted noise.
Out on the road, this Series 2 delivers a pleasing period drive – the larger rubber makes not only for a good look but also a more relaxed cruise due to the larger rolling diameter, and free wheeling hubs combined with this give the best possible economy in the standard set up – whilst also protecting against wear to the front axle.
In summary, if you are looking for an early Series 2 Land Rover® which benefits from MOT & Tax Exemption whilst carrying the whole family, then this could be for you. With the added benefit of classic insurance, it should prove cost-effective in the long term, whilst also being something in which the family can enjoy “vintage cool” trips to the beach or the pub.
