History:
When Opel's exceptional sports car was first presented in 1965, the plant in Bochum did not expect to build more than 30'000 examples. The great demand from the start of sales in autumn 1968 with a production of more than 100'000 units required the production of the body as well as the painting and the production of the interior to be relocated to two French plants. The individual components were then transported to the Opel plant in Bochum, where the GT was assembled.
Only legislation in the USA, where over 2/ 3 of the Opel GTs were sold, stopped further production of the successful sports coupé. The example on offer here was first delivered in Switzerland in July 1971, has three previous owners and was repainted, fitted with genuine leather upholstery and undergone a gentle restoration a few years ago.
Body and Paint:
The body is accident-free, undamaged and without dents. The paintwork presents as new, without scratches and is freshly sealed.
Interieur:
The carpets were renewed a few years ago and the seats were sewn in with beautiful genuine leather. The trim is in beautiful condition and the steering wheel will be restored and trimmed with genuine leather when sold.
Engine and Mechanics: With a mileage of just under 77'000km this GT is a rarity on the market. The engine values are impeccable, the gearstick precise and the clutch in very good condition.
Chassis:
The underbody is rust-free and welded with two professionally executed repair panels. The entire drive train as well as the steering are in checked maintenance condition. The brakes as well as the tyres have been renewed and the vehicle has been freshly veteran-tested in autumn 2021.
Driving Experience:
The Opel Sport Coupé is a true Gran Tourismo. It drives nimble, sporty, fast, but also very relaxed and comfortable. The Opel GT is a surprisingly agile coupé, suitable for everyday use, cuts a fine figure on the motorway and even has room for luggage.
Recommendation:
If you are looking for an Opel GT, this is one of the few Swiss examples still in existence, which is very beautiful in terms of substance, technics and appearance. Remarkable are the flawless bodywork and the as good as new paint, which makes this GT also valuable for a collector. The Opel GT/ J is delivered with a fresh overall inspection and documentation, which includes the original owner's manual and brochure.
