This truly outstanding Triumph TR2 'Long Door' was first registered on the 25th March 1954 and is a genuine home market right hand drive car.
Only 2823 examples were ever built for the home market and this car is number 470. The first production road Triumph TR2 left the Triumph works at Canley in August 1953 and just 250 were built prior to 1954. 50 of these cars stayed in the UK and from the start of 1954 production increased and TR2's began to dominate the home market. The success of the TR2 in 1954 was proven with one being entered into the famous Mille Miglia event where it came 28th out of 450 vehicles and in the Le Mans 24 Hours that year another TR2 finished 5th in class. These results reflected the strength and performance of this wonderful model.
DGR 470 was taken off the road many years ago and was purchased by its most recent owner in need of total restoration in 2002. In 2009 a staggering £35, 000 was spent on having the body and chassis completely rebuilt and at around this time the gearbox was stripped and rebuilt. The car was returned from Triumph specialists unfinished and was stored until 2014.
Between 2014-2016 in the region of £35, 000 has been spent on completing the car meaning a staggering £70, 000 has been spent on this top class example.
In early 2014 the chassis after several years stored with the body off was checked, treated, prepared and re-painted. The stripped body was removed of all paint, checked, prepared and fully re-painted in Triumph Wedgewood Blue.
All new steering, suspension and brake components were purchased and fitted to the car, the engine was stripped down and rebuilt, the rear axle treated to new seals and all new ancillaries fitted to the car. With the body back on the chassis and all new mechanical components fitted, the TR was treated to all new chrome, including chrome wire wheels and new tyres and the interior fully trimmed to include a new hood and frame.
DGR 470 presents in first class condition in every respect. The car is effectively brand new from a mechanical view and the underside is outstanding with painted floors that have not yet even been waxoyled. The exterior and interior are first class, as is the engine bay and boot area and the car is a potential show winner.
Being an early 'Long Door' car with Mille Miglia eligibiliy and offering a rare opportunity to purchase a car that is basically fresh from a total nut and bolt rebuild; this certainly offers somewhat of a rare opportinuty.
