The MGB’s big brother, the MGC only saw a two-year production from 1967 – 1969 and was fitted with a 2. 9-litre straight six engine producing 145bhp, quite a substantial amount of power for the reasonably priced coupe at the time. Those noticeable bonnet bulges for the carb. and straight six giving the MGC’s secrets away. With the more powerful block the ‘C’ was said to achieve 0-60 times of just 10 seconds. The internet suggests that there are around 500 MGC’s currently registered on UK roads.
This red MG has been dry stored for the past few years and has seen very little use, having been acquired by its current owner in 2019. It was last MOT’d 2019-2020 where it was used by the owner to attend Goodwood Revival. It seems to have also had some time off the road between 2013 – 2019 which has helped keep the body in good solid condition, although the paint has the usual red fade, with a good buff it may well come up nicely as would the chrome work. All panels look to be straight and true. The black leather interior is in very good order for its age with the audio speaker and wooden steering wheel showing some signs of wear.
The car was previously started and run just a few weeks ago, having had little use in recent times, it will therefore require light recommissioning. Aside from a conversion from 6v to a single 12v battery the car appears to be completely standard. The owner reports that when last used the engine ran as it should and the gearbox engaged all gears. The sale includes current and old V5 documents showing that the car has been living around the Cirencester area for a considerable amount of time. There is no other paperwork included so it is hard to determine if the mileage is genuine.
Vehicles that are un-registered or on foreign plates may require Import Duty and Vat to be paid upon purchase via HMRC prior to registering with the DVLA for a UK plate, if you are not sure please ask. For classic cars over 30 years this equates to 5% Duty on the final value.
