WHY IS THE V12 VANQUISH S SO SPECIAL?
In the Autumn of 2004, Aston Martin introduced their new flagship, the ultimate V12 Vanquish, the ‘S’. The company described it as their ‘Hero’ car.
By enhancing the engine with new cylinder heads, improved fuel injectors and revised mapping, the power output from the revered 5. 9 litre (Aston Martin refer to it as a 6. 0 litre) V12 rose from 460 bhp to 520 bhp. And with a top speed in excess of 200 mph, the Vanquish S became the fastest road-going Aston ever produced.
The 6 speed manual gearbox is controlled via F1-style paddles mounted on the steering wheel, allowing for total manual control by the driver or, when required, the computer can take over and shift gears automatically.
The Vanquish presents a commanding outline, and is both elegant and muscular in its styling. A mixture of hand finished aluminium panels, over a carbon fibre tunnel and bonded aluminium monocoque tub, provide a super-lightweight yet very rigid structure.
Each Vanquish S required almost 400 man hours to produce, with 70 of those hours accounting for the interior alone. Just 1, 086 were made, with production ending in the summer of 2007. This also marked the end of manufacturing of Aston Martins at the famous Newport Pagnell factory after a 50+ year period.
Appreciated worldwide as the last of the ‘real’ Aston Martins, the V12 Vanquish S perfectly reflects the pedigree, heritage and history of the marque. For that reason, combined with so few miles and such fine condition, this car will surely be forever desirable.
