With the debut of the 911 in 1964, Porsche pushed the air-cooled performance envelope even further with its first six-cylinder offering. Output increased by nearly 100 horsepower over the previous 356 model, improving the power-to-weight ratio, while driving dynamics were also enhanced. A major update to the first-generation Porsche 911 came in 1969. While the exterior remained largely the same, many internal improvements were made, including extending the wheelbase 2. 5" for better balance and handling, while 11" ventilated disc brakes with aluminium calipers were added to all four corners. A new variant would also join the line-up. Offered between the high-performance 911S and the carburetted 911T, the E replaced the previous 911L as a more luxurious performance offering. The 'E' stood for 'Einspritzung,' German for injection, and saw the Weber carburettors replaced by a Bosch mechanical fuel-injection system similar to that of the beastly 911S. The new fuel-injection system helped the 911E deliver bountiful low-end torque in addition to a reported 158 horsepower.
This lovely, left hand drive, 1969 Porsche 911E Targa with the 2. 2 litre engine and Sportomatic gearbox was imported to the UK in June 2019 and has been the subject to a complete restoration by Porsche specialists in Preston. During the restoration, which has only recently been completed, the suspension was upgraded, and the interior is described as being 'like new' with upgraded seats. Mechanically the car is fully sorted, and we are informed that it drives extremely well. Finished in white with a black leather interior, this Porsche 911E is supplied with a V5C registration document and a file containing the invoices and records for the restoration. This Porsche 911E Targa is a timeless classic that is still highly regarded by classic car enthusiasts today. Its iconic design, exceptional performance, and unique features make it a true masterpiece of automotive engineering.
