Jaguar XJ40 – 3 owners/ 36k Miles/ Collector Quality
Launched to much acclaim in 1968, the XJ6 was the last model that Sir William Lyons had a hands-on input to the design. Lower, longer, and wider than the preceding ‘420’ model the XJ6 featured rack and pinion steering while the favoured 4. 2 six-cylinder engine delivered a top speed in excess of 120mph and a level of comfort other manufacturers could only aspire to.
The replacement for the Series XJ models was code-named XJ40. The new model was lighter, the chassis was stiffer improving handling & ride. cabin noise was reduced and there was a greater emphasis on build quality.
Milestone Classics are delighted to offer for sale one of the best and most original XJ40’s that you could wish to find. Owned locally we have patiently been waiting for the third owner to decide when he might want to market his beloved Jaguar - that day has now arrived.
The XJ40 was initially retained in 1993 by Jaguar Motors Limited as part of the Executive Car Fleet. These special cars enjoyed a high specification with some nice additional touches – for example all the wood veneers on doors and dashboard are matched.
The car was sold (by Weybridge Autos) in late 1993 to a Pan-Am pilot who insisted on air-conditioning - the factory sent a team down from Browns Lane to retro-fit the factory air-con unit at a cost in excess of £3, 000.
In 1995 the current owner visited his local Jaguar Dealership (Weybridge Automobiles) looking for a special “High Days & Holidays” car. The XJ40 immediately caught his attention as he specifically wanted a 93/ 94 car that had improved reliability, thanks to Ford, but still retained many of the original XJ6 touches (this started to change the following year).
Over the last 28 years the car has been kept in a heated garage, fastidiously maintained and never been out in the rain. The car drives perfectly, the paint is all original and the interior is like stepping back in time.
