We?re delighted to offer this pristine and prized 1952 Jaguar XK120 OTS. From its legendary, competition-proven six-cylinder engine and gearbox, to its paintwork and interior, there are few areas untouched.
From the moment its flowing lines were first penned by Malcolm Sayer until now, few cars have altered the automotive landscape as much as the Jaguar XK120. When it first arrived on the scene at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show, it was the fastest production car in the world. Jaguar was so proud of its top speed they even shoehorned it into the name. No prizes for guessing what it was?
Powered by Jaguar's competition-proven twin-overhead camshaft straight-six that powered the D-type to a Le Mans win, the 3. 4-litre engine would go on to power Jaguars well into the 1980s. But it wasn't all about straight line speed - the XK120 was an ideal all-rounder that was accessible to drive and buy, unlike the highly-strung Italian cars it competed against at the time.
This XK120 was delivered new to America. Shortly after this Roadster arrived back into the UK in 2016, an extensive programme of works was carried out by James Tester Engineering. The car was taken down to its bare metal, repainted in Royal Blue and treated to an ox-blood red and tan leather interior, complimented by a black mohair roof and weather equipment. Inspired by the legendary "NOB 120" Alpine Rally Gold Cup Winner from 1950, louvres have been added to the bonnet to aid cooling - 12 before the bonnet stiffener and 15 after, as per the original, and all belted shut with a beautiful brown leather bonnet strap. Lighting has been faithfully upgraded with the addition of rally spotlights sitting neatly inside of the original, standard headlights.
Under the skin, the matching numbers engine has been rebuilt, the engine bay has been overhauled and detailed and a five speed gearbox fitted. The car is fitted with two-inch twin SU carburettors with electronic chokes. An upgraded aluminium radiator has been installed to take care of cooling duties, and a big bore, stainless steel exhaust has been fitted. Ensuring it?s a useable classic, the footwell on both sides has been extended by six inches into the bulkhead to accommodate taller drivers and passengers, while a Le Mans style filler cap was added at the rear.
Converted from left to right-hand drive during its life, this XK120 now sits on 16-inch chrome wire wheels and is one of the greatest and most usable examples of a great British icon.
Since the work was completed in 2016 the car has been to XK guru Guy Broad in Coventry for some works to the brakes and suspension.
This XK120 presents very well throughout and is a joy to drive and behold. It is correctly UK registered and sports and age appropriate number plate.
