ARGUABLY the best value P6 Rover 3500S out there on the UK classic car market today. That is what we have here as yet another cool classic creeps out of the cavern that is the home of Martin Howey Classics (Est. 25 years).
This proud old girl is, as I say, the "S" model and therefore the much rarer 4-speed manual as the vast majority of the V8 cars were built with auto boxes. She has power steering making her a joy to drive and handle. And, as her British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate states she is finished in Mexico Brown with "Huntsman" trim. Back in the day re. the 3500, that meant a beige vinyl roof and matching outer sills. She is fresh from a private collection, although always maintained as if ready for the road. Recent overhaul of carbs, new exhaust and brakes to mention just three recent pieces of attention to detail.
Her base unit is in very good order, showing no signs of any welding that I could see. Lift out the rear seat bases and she is all original and untouched in there. Also she was injected with one of the popular rust proofing products of the day when she was brand new (Zeibart etc) and this will have undoubtedly helped her to survive so well.
Two more things to mention. The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that she is fitted with the earlier - and more attractive I would say - chrome grille. That was a personal decision and the correct grille comes with the car. Secondly she has the high compression V8 on board as the power was decreased another year down the line to meet emission levels.
She boasts delightful cream leather as opposed to the later ribbed velour style and the driver's seat is a super place to be with that classic V8 dash in front of you as well as the specially designed steering wheel for the S model. She sounds superb and drives beautifully. In my opinion - and take a look around at the prices of the 3500S - she is probably the best value example out there. It is also my opinion that, if you are making a journey to view this car, you will almost certainly leave as the vehicle's new owner.
I have been trading in classic cars on a full-time basis for 25 years now. My descriptions are based on my own opinions and I do try as hard as I can not to be led by the heart as I have been obsessed with "older cars" ever since I was old enough to know what a motor car was! Please don't come and spend an hour hitting them and making the mistake of comparing the vehicle's condition to the one-year-old Audi you arrived in. They are antiques on wheels with stories to tell. They represent a part of social and economic history from the last Century. They need to be given good homes where time and love can be lavished on them. I do not restore them or spend countless hours polishing them. I consider myself to be one of the UK's foremost finders of eclectic classic cars and hence my pricing knocks many of my competitors into a cocked hat. Well, maybe a trilby would suit my little world better.
My cars are sold as old, mainly out-dated machines and are sold without any comeback whatsoever. Please don't ring a week down the line and tell me that the rev counter isn't working or that your friend had a look and found a hole somewhere. Their age dictates that work will always be ongoing. If you are not prepared for that, then don't buy a classic car. This example is 51-years-old! They are my terms and conditions.
Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote.
