American made evocation of the iconic Jaguar SS100 and a rare sight on this side of ‘The Pond’
Ford 2. 3 litre engine, fibreglass bodywork and nicely detailed
Previously resident in California and two former (UK) keepers
Founded in 1979, Classic Roadsters Ltd of North Dakota produced fibreglass-bodied evocations of the MG TD, Austin-Healey 3000, Mercedes-Benz 500K and Jaguar SS100 christened the ‘Duchess’, ‘Saxon’ (or ‘Sebring’ in wide-arched guise), ‘Marlene’ and ‘Duke’ respectively. Launched during 1982, the latter was based around a tubular and sheet steel chassis equipped with coil-sprung suspension and disc brakes. Available with a choice of Ford or Chevrolet engines allied to either manual or automatic transmissions, the ‘Duke’ offered brisk performance and was marketed by Classic Roadsters as ‘The best, most authentic component car money can buy’.
Registered with the DVLA as a ‘Roader Duke 1939 Jag’ (sic), this handsome two-seater is powered by a 2. 3 litre Ford four-cylinder engine mated to manual transmission. Thought to have been factory-built if only because of the VIN plate on its bulkhead, the SS100 Evocation was resident in California before being imported to the UK during 2012. Sporting a wooden dual cowl dashboard, bucket seats and twin side-mounted spare wheels, ‘SCZ 6961’ will require recommissioning prior to road use having last been MOT tested on July 2nd 2019 at an unwarranted 2, 906 miles. Accompanied by a V5C Registration Document showing two former (UK) keepers and MOT history.
