History:
The ancestor of the fabulous Speedster is the 356 America Roadster. Its strong point compared to the 356 Coupé from which it was derived was that it lost 160 kilograms in weight. As? Using an aluminum body manufactured by hand at Erich Heuer Karosseriefabrik (Ullersricht, Germany). This allowed it to reach 180 km/ h, a chilling top speed for the time, with its 70 HP four-cylinder boxer engine.

The idea for this convertible came from Max Hoffmann, an American importer whose requests produced wonders such as the BMW 507. He asked Porsche for a cheap car, with little equipment, that would cost around 3, 000 euros. And so the Porsche 356 Speedster arrived in the autumn of 1954. It was the first time that the brand used this name but it already had some key features such as the folding rain hood or the light bucket seats.

Its price of just $2, 995 made the Porsche 356 1500 Speedster a success, also driven by the fact that James Dean, a road lover, bought it. Other evolutions would arrive later, such as the 356 A 1500 GS Carrera GT Speedster from 1957. It had a 1. 5-liter boxer engine with 110 HP and was the first production car from Stuttgart to reach 200 km/ h.
