MGB Roadster: R/ B Conversion & Owned 30 Years
The original MGB Roadster is one of the most recognisable British sports cars ever manufactured. It brought affordable fun to a whole generation when launched in 1962 and over the next 18 years more than 500, 000 cars were sold all over the world.
Milestone Classics are always looking for MGB’s and we were delighted when Paul, the long-term owner, approached us with a view to selling his cherished car.
The story begins over 30 years ago when Paul was made aware of an MGB that was in “barn” storage close to his home. He and a friend viewed the car and although unused for a period of time it was clear that the ‘B’ was remarkably original and structurally very good - a deal was done.
As with most MGB’s – mine started second time after 12 years in the garage – it was up, running and in use within a couple of weeks.
In 2005 a restoration was undertaken with any corrosion removed and panels replaced. At the same time the car was converted from rubber to chrome bumpers, the interior upgraded to grey leather with black piping and a wooden dash fitted. More recently Chrome wire wheels were added and Moto-Lita steering wheel fitted.
The MGB has gone for an MOT every year and used regularly for high days and holidays over the past 30 years. Paul has maintained the car himself and in 2004 the engine was converted to run on unleaded fuel. Today she drives extremely well with the signature B exhaust note and is a real credit to the owner.
The history file with the car contains old V5’s, MOT’s back to 1990, pictures of the work in 2005, invoices, driver’s handbook etc.
We love the look of this car that combines the traditional Roadster lines with contemporary touches and the black/ grey is, in our view, a stunning combination.
