Here we have for sale an early 1972 Series 3 Land Rover®, finished in the popular Light Pastel Green colour scheme, with Limestone Wheels. This vehicle has benefitted from a significant and high-specification rebuild in times past.
Externally, this has all the features one would hope to see of a “good” Series 3 – the bonnet mounted spare with Paddock Spares cover, front lamp guards, larger door mirrors for better driving visibility, rear mud flaps and grab handles, tow bar with electrics to allow towing, an integrated step to allow rear access for passengers and to assist loading items into the cabin, etc etc. A good set of Yokohama cross climate tyres is fitted too – to give a good compromise between off and on road reliability, which is a nice touch.
The inside is where things really start to pop though – three front deluxe seats are fitted, along with deluxe trim to the doors and the transmission tunnel for additional sound deadening… three can sit here in a good level of comfort, with both outer passengers benefitting from both an arm rest and a door pocket, which is great to see. We have placed our own deluxe rubber mats on top of the carpets to protect them for future use. The rear houses twin bench seats with a load mat to the floor area, which means seating for seven people including the driver. A rear door card and handle is fitted to complete the premium feel back here. Side windows in the rear mean everyone can see out, the driver can see their blindspot giving increased safety to all & a light and airy feel inside when driving.
Out on the road, this Series 3 gives a really good account of an enhanced period drive – a galvanised chassis which has been painted black means no concerns in regards to welding and corrosion, and the cross-climate wheels and tyres, coupled with an overdrive for an extra gear and the extra interior trim, make for a very pleasing and quiet drive. Parabolic springs improve the quality of the ride vastly over standard, too. There is a significant history file present showing no expense spared for the care of this Series 3 over the years, and that can really be felt behind the wheel – it feels very “sorted”.
In summary then, if you are looking for a Series 3 Land Rover® which can stand the test of time thanks to a galvanised chassis, drives as well as possible in the period set up thanks to sympathetic upgrades to the drivetrain and can carry 7 people in station wagon style-comfort, then this could be for you.
