History An evolution of the TR4 and built over 15 months between 1967 and 1968, 8, 484 Triumph TR 250s were produced. The TR 250 was in fact identical to a TR5, but only intended for the American market. As the TR5's fuel injection did not comply with US standards, two Stromberg 175 carburettors were fitted under the bonnet of the TR250, producing 110 bhp compared with 150 bhp for the TR5.
Our model The British Motor Heritage certificate, included in the file, tells us that this Triumph TR 250 was delivered new in May 1968 from the Leyland Motor Corporation dealership in New York. Initially released in Jasmine (pale yellow), it arrived in France in 2008 in a new British Green colour.
Its original engine is still present and has been running perfectly since its complete restoration. (Matching numbers) It underwent a complete restoration in our workshops between 2022 and 2023. The finishes are exemplary and have been pushed to the very last detail in order to approach 'concours' condition. All the invoices are available in the file. The starting point was a very sound body and chassis.
The sheet metalwork was completely redone, as were the alignments.
The running gear was completely rebuilt. The engine internals were completely rebuilt (details available). The interior was rebuilt (dashboard, doors and centre console) except for the seats, which are in very good condition. A photo file of the restoration is available. The file contains more than €42, 000 worth of invoices for parts and labour.
Without being exhaustive, here are some of the new parts invoiced: Engine The clutch is new, as are the fuel/ oil/ water pump, engine seals, spinnaker, gearbox seals, pistons and bearings. The timing kit has been replaced. The crankshaft, cylinder head and block have been ground.
The camshaft has been bored, as have the cylinders. A complete stainless steel line has been installed. Electricity The wiring harness has been completely rebuilt. The headlights and indicators are new. Electronic ignition has been installed.
Long-range lights have been fitted, as well as a discreet USB socket. Bodywork The bumpers are new, as are the front wing and door mouldings. Interior Carpeting, dashboard trim, centre console, glove compartment, door jambs. The dashboard, in precious elm burr wood, was custom-built by a local cabinet-maker and partner. More than 12 coats of varnish were then applied.
The Triumph TR 250 is registered as a collector's item, and the FFVE certificate is included in the file. A full appraisal report was carried out in November 2023. This Triumph TR 250 drives beautifully.
Its settings have been fine-tuned, we've run the engine in for over 300 km and everything works perfectly.
It starts from a standing start and the sound produced by its in-line 6-cylinder engine combined with a stainless steel exhaust system is a pure pleasure to listen to. It revs with gusto, the idle is perfectly stable, it doesn't overheat, it brakes straight and there are no suspicious noises to report. The adjustments are excellent.
The colour combination is particularly elegant, with the beautiful British green paintwork and the sober black interior. The quality of the restoration of this Triumph TR250 is quite simply unique on the market today.
