Description

A stunning Jaguar Type E Cabriolet 4. 2 Series 2 from 1969 is for sale.

This car continues to captivate. Its rich history spanning over 60 years has made it the symbol of rock stars and Hollywood divas. Launched in March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Type E succeeded the well-known XK150, famous for its Le Mans victories. At the end of the Geneva show where it was unveiled, it created quite a stir and the order books were already full. Its price was unbeatable for such an extremely high-performance engine. It was the cheapest sports car in its segment and at the same time the fastest production car in the world with a top speed of 240 km/ h. It then enjoyed enormous commercial success and a long production run from 1961 until 1974, when cabriolet production ended. Built in 72, 507 examples, it was offered in 5 series in total, with Series 1 actually covering the 3. 8 Series 1, the 4. 2 Series 1 and the Series 1½. Its success was particularly strong in the United States.

This is the case with our model, which was initially exported to the USA, and like all export models, it was equipped with two Stromberg carburettors which reduced its power to 170 bhp.

When it returned to France, it was then "Europeanised" and regained its three SU carburettors and its full power of 265 bhp.

Our model is in excellent condition following an almost complete restoration, with its last paint finish applied in 2021. It is equipped with a 6-cylinder 4. 2L engine and a 4-speed manual gearbox. The mechanics are in very good condition, as evidenced by the cleanliness of the engine bay.

The same applies to the red bodywork, its original colour, and the black leather interior, with certain trim parts such as the door panels and boot lining recently refurbished. Similarly, the hood is new and the car is sold with a tonneau cover.

One can note an almost perfect alignment of the bonnet and doors, which indicates the good health and especially the accident-free history of our model.

The chassis is also in excellent condition as it was replaced upon its return from the USA. Moreover, the "Eiffel Towers", the emblematic components of this chassis, look brand new, so well maintained is our Jaguar. Its current owner has recently had the brakes and ignition overhauled.

The three SU carburettors are perfectly tuned, allowing the engine to start at the first turn of the key and run without any hesitation. Its short-throw gearbox is particularly precise and smooth.

This Jaguar has an almost complete history and its documentation for DRIRE and UTAC inspection dating from 2004 will allow you, if you wish, to easily register it as a classic car. Its current owner, in addition to these two complete files, holds numerous invoices and the service record.

Always kept under cover, this Jaguar is cherished by its owner, a true enthusiast of these mythical British models. Its attractive price, given its condition, makes it accessible just as it was in 1969 when faced with Porsches and other Ferraris of the era.
