Description
Auto Storica is pleased to announce the sale of this Alfa Romeo Spider 1300 Junior Cuttlebone. This was the name given to the first generation Alfa Romeo Spider, the successor to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider, due to its concave side, created by Pininfarina, which was reminiscent of the internal carapace of this invertebrate.
Alfa Romeo launched a vast advertising campaign to promote its new Spider, with several media presentations, a week of test drives for the specialist press on the roads of Lake Garda, and even the organisation of a cruise from Genoa to Cannes that included a draw for three units during the trip.
Although the best publicity for the little Italian roadster came in 1967 from Dustin Hoffman, and his appearance in the award-winning film The Prizewinner, the qualities of the new front-engined, rear-wheel-drive Italian two-seater captivated fans. Even the entry-level version, the 1300 Junior, to which our unit corresponds, offered exceptional performance, its 89 bhp of power moving its meagre 1, 000 kilos of weight with ease. Our unit is not only fully restored, but also boasts improved and more reliable mechanics, offering immediate throttle response thanks to its larger Webber carburettors. Its interior, finished in a bright dark blue colour to match the soft top and the cabin upholstery, contrasts perfectly with the silver of its bodywork. And the spoked wheels are the icing on the cake of such an exclusive look. If you feel the need to discover what it feels like to drive an Alfa Romeo, be sure to test drive our unit. We're sure it will steal the Cuore.
