Description
History:
The development of one of the world's most famous brands - Porsche - began in 1948 with the 356. Between July 7, 1948 and April 1965, 76, 302 units were built as Coupé, Cabriolet and Speedster. Today, the Porsche 356 is one of the most sought-after classic cars for collectors of high-quality classic cars that retain their value. The appeal of the 356 probably lies in the Porsche myth and also in its charming appearance and solid technology. The price development of the 356 models is striking and continues to reach new highs. From the outside, the Porsche 356 C is almost indistinguishable from the 356 B. The modified wheels with simpler hubcaps without the Porsche emblem are striking. The change to the wheel disks was due to the fact that Porsche now equipped all production vehicles with disc brakes. The example presented here is all matching numbers and corresponds in every detail to the delivery condition at the time. First delivered to the USA in 1964, this C Coupé came to Switzerland on behalf of a customer following an expert appraisal by Goodtimer, where it was technically overhauled for reliability and durability for around 20, 000 francs and repainted and fully preserved in 2024.
Body and paintwork:
The body is very nice, the gaps are good and somewhat reduced due to the restorations. The add-on parts are in excellent condition. The body was repainted in 2024 and is in correspondingly mint condition.
Interior:
The interior of this example was completely refurbished before the acquisition by Goodtimer, the chrome applications were re-chromed, the seats freshly upholstered and covered, a new carpet landscape fitted and a contemporary radio installed. It feels very well cared for and fresh.
Engine and mechanics:
The engine and gearbox work perfectly. Compression and exhaust values are very good following the complete overhaul of the carburetors and revision of both cylinder heads. The gearbox shifts well and the clutch still has good grip.
Chassis:
Chassis and brakes show perfect values on the test bench. The brake system was part of the overhaul in 2020 and the underbody has been completely re-preserved and wax-sealed.
Driving experience:
The Porsche 356 is an easy-care, long-distance proven and solid model for enjoyable trips, rallies and meetings. Thanks to the wonderful chassis, the typical Porsche braking system and the lightweight body, the 356 can be driven very quickly even with the mid-range engine.
Recommendation:
The Porsche is a must-have among car collectors and Porsche enthusiasts. Not only is it easy to handle and maintain, its comfort and agility are also fantastic for an automobile from the early 1960s. For over two decades, the 356 has been one of the historic collector's cars that you can't go wrong with and is extremely stable in value. This is also the reason why many of these 356s have been taken out of hidden barns, restored and put back on the road.
